Colours and Bows

Hello and welcome to the next installment of your favourite fashion fixes from me – The Stylish Wench.

OK, so at the moment we’ve just had the Glastonbury festival and all you need to know about that is everything is wet, clothes have receding hemlines and many people choose to add a drunken slur to their voice.  But that aside, let’s talk about what’s new, what’s hot and what are the best products out there!

BowsAt the moment we are still quite far into the credit crunch, despite sales surrounding us with yet more temptation and jobs becoming harder to find than a morsel of food in a celebrity body.  The key is to re-use and rejuvenate your older items of clothing. Tie colourful ribbons to your handbags, add lace to your dresses and wear some unusual finds from charity shops.

BagAs far as hair goes, everyone seems to be going for that sun kissed look right now, since it’s summer, although, we haven’t exactly had much sun.  And fake tans, PLEASE do not think orange is an acceptable skin colour, it did not look all that great on an umpa lumpa and it won’t look great on you either. If you MUST use a fake tan, I would recommend sticking to a classic brand such as Clinique or Lancaster.  They are tried and tested and are reasonably less orange than others.  St Tropez bronzing foam is also a safer choice because foam is less likely to streak.  These all retail at £15-£20, which I think is a bargain for not looking like you’ve been tangoed (or the politician Peter Hain).

Carl’s footnote … Laura’s right there…Fake tan is highly detectable and truly visible by the camera in model photo shoots and the streakiness looks even more ghastly in pictures especially in areas of skin creases, most notably behind the legs at the elbows. Unless your blessed with the neck dexterity of a barn owl to look at the back of your legs don’t risk it !

Lesson of the day:
Also, I’d like to point out that you should NEVER, under ANY circumstances (well apart from a 70% sale) buy cheap clothes, make-up etc.  When you buy cheap, you look cheap and what you’ve bought won’t last you long either.  So ALWAYS buy the best, and you will look a whole lot better for it, even if it means buying less.
Until next time…
Over and out
